War PoemsKnown unto God  The seat where he once sat and talked to me  About the future that we were to share,  I look towards it now, but it’s empty  I sit and wonder why he is not there.  I remember when we met in Dover:  We talked, we laughed, we even tried to dance.  Where is he now? In my brainWelcome to a country where the sun sets very coldly  And the tears of all the ghosts make up the rain  Where my only relief is my enemy's grief  And on the air is a distant tang of pain.  We sleep in houses others might call mansions  But tears have eroded their fine shells to caves  And the vineyards that once prospered in the valley  Are burial grounds with broken hopes for graves.  My parents argue softly in the front room  In recent years, they've lost their energy  My brother's in the back room cursing stars  But I've already lost faith in destiny.  My one good friend disappeare In my brain
